7. Use a Compost Bin
Use a Compost Bin to get a headstart on your gardening journey. Composting is an easy and effective way to create nutrient-rich soil for your plants. It’s also a great way to reduce household waste and save money on fertilizers.
To start, gather the organic waste from your kitchen, such as vegetable scraps, fruit peels, and coffee grounds, and combine it with yard waste like leaves, grass clippings, and sawdust. Then, place it in your compost bin and let nature do the rest.
As your compost breaks down, it will enrich your soil and create a better environment for your plants to thrive.
8. Plant a Rooftop Garden

Plant a Square Foot Garden to get started on your gardening journey! This approach to gardening is fun and easy to follow; it basically involves breaking down your garden into 1-foot sections and then planting a specific number of plants in each square.
This simple approach is great for beginners as it helps you get started and will give you an idea of the basics of gardening without taking on too much at once!
Plus, it also allows you to get creative and try different types of plants in each section. So get planting and have some fun!
10. Plant an Herb Garden
Plant an Herb Garden for an easy and fun way to start gardening! Herbs are great for beginning gardeners as they are hardy, low-maintenance, and can be grown in a variety of spaces.
You can buy herb plants or seedlings at your local nursery–or even start from seed. Once you have your plants, decide where to place them in your yard or garden. Herbs need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day and well-drained soil.
Once you’ve found the perfect spot, start planting! With a few simple steps, you’ll be ready to start harvesting your herbs in no time.
There are so many fun ways to start gardening and one of my favorites would be to jumpstart the gardening season by starting my seeds indoors with spring just around the corner. You can plant them outside once they are large enough to tolerate the change in location if you have a covered greenhouse as we do. We use a space heater to prevent the nighttime temperature from falling below 9°C.
All the above gardening ideas are things that we have actually done and are still doing. We just started doing our own compost which has saved us a ton of money on fertilizer costs. Gardening is so rewarding because you get to save money on food costs and your yard will look better than all of the neighbors.
I hope these fun ways to start gardening help you out if you’re just starting out, or you’re looking for new ideas.
