Are you excited for another great Gardening Season?

Gardening Season

So, we’ve been quite the busy bees trying to clear out the plant room where we nurture all our lovely houseplants for sale on our Facebook Marketplace page. I’ve given all those cheeky little potted plants a makeover, combining them into larger pots to free up space on our crowded growing tables. It’s a jungle of effort, especially when I have to snap new photos and whip up fresh ads to replace the ones that flopped! But hey, it’s all for the noble cause of making room for the grand seed planting extravaganza!

Those are just a few, I still have a bunch more I have to get done yet. I just needed to take a break and so I decided to write a quick post on what’s been going on here.

Ramping things up this year

After I snap all the plant photos and spruce up my Facebook Marketplace posts, I’ll finally have some wiggle room to plant seeds for the garden—cue the confetti! This year, we’re diving in headfirst like garden gnomes on a mission, aiming to sell way more than we did last year. Last season, we just dipped our toes in the waters to see what splashes we could make, and wow, it turned out splendidly!

We’re even going to try our luck with some garden flowers this year, sprinkling a bit of color into the mix. With our gardening gloves on, we’ll be cranking up the production of tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers since folks seem to have a real hankering for them. Plus, we’re getting a jumpstart this year so our beloved customers can take home larger plants that are ready to rock in their own gardens!

Lots of work to do yet!

The Greenhouse will need a good clearing out after I get all the seeds planted in the grow room. Right now, it’s packed with old pots from the plants we brought inside to extend their growing season—it’s like a retirement home for exhausted pots! I’ll have to repurpose those containers for this year’s fresh crop. I have a compost bin out back where all the leftovers will go; I should have a mountain of good compost by now. Plus, there’s a little flooding on the walkway from the snow melting outside, turning it into a surprise mini pond—who knew I’d be hosting aquatic life this spring?

Inside our greenhouse

I got my trusty Vevor diesel heater installed last fall, and I put it to the test the other day—it runs like a dream! I filled up a tank of diesel fuel to keep the seedlings cozy during the chilly nights until it warms up enough. During the day, though, I don’t need to run it; it can soar to a sizzling 40°C (or more)—picture a sauna! I have to crack open the door to prevent it from getting too hot in there for safety reasons; after all, we don’t want any unexpected bonfires in the greenhouse, do we? Yes, spontaneous combustion is a thing—believe it or not!

Early seed test run

It’s the perfect moment to test the waters in the greenhouse with some cold crops. Right now, I have some radishes that I planted just over a couple of weeks ago, and they’re starting to peek through the soil like eager little green soldiers. I think I’ll sow a few more seeds along the rows that are starting, so they’ll be ready to join their comrades when it’s time to pluck the first batch from the ground. Gotta love radishes—what’s your veggie of choice?

If you squint really hard you can see them in the image below, or click the image to open larger image.

Conclusion…

And there you have it, my fellow green thumbs! As we gear up for what promises to be a sensational gardening season, I’m excited to see what blossoms (and what doesn’t) in this adventure. Remember, gardening is about harvesting joy as much as it’s about planting seeds—sometimes you’ll sow laughter alongside tomatoes! So, whether you’re an avid gardener or just a curious onlooker, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this post.
