Well here is Flashback Fridays Chapter 10, a weekly series of entertaining and fun flashbacks of blog posts I’ve written over the past 20 years of blogging. It’s surreal to consider that I’ve been blogging for 20 years.

Using the Wayback Machine to select a few old posts that we believe would be both interesting and humorous and to post them each week in this Flashback Fridays series. So, let’s take a look at what was going through my mind all those years ago.

When I was younger, I was such a nerd. Please use your discretion when reading these posts because I apparently used profanity a lot.

Let’s get to Flashback Fridays Chapter 10!

Interesting day

January 22nd, 2005 by MacBros

I had a rather fun morning flying around, but I don’t want to get into that. May sound like I’m rubbing it into some people’s faces and I don’t wanna be like that.

I don’t plan on doing anything at all today because I was up very early this morning. Just gonna’ kick back and watch the ol’ boob tube.

I might get up off my ass and do some web touch-ups on the site, but I may not either. Like I said I don’t plan on doing anything today. No beer to drink because I don’t want to. I was also offered money to get some from a friend, but I opted out of that. Asthma is acting up for no apparent reason.

They say we’re in for another Blizzard tonight and Sunday. I don’t wanna say anything like I did last time and end up getting walloped again, but we’ll see.

Well, the futon is looking lonely, so I better go lay down on it.

Mac's Opinion - The place where everyone is entitled to my opinion

I’m kinda scared to say this because back then people were annoyed whenever I would bring it up. But I used to fly shit. Well, not actually shit, but planes. I started flying when I was in Air Cadets, 333 Lord Beaverbrook Squadron. Started off in a glider, then moved on to the tow plane that pulled the glider up into the air to get it high enough to fly on its own.

One of my uncles (Who was also a pilot) would have to make a pitstop at the airport that was close to me while he was on his way to Ontario. When he had the time we would take his Sesna up for a little joyride. I guess I talked about that a lot when I was at work when people asked me what I did on my days off. Their eyes would roll whenever I uttered the words, “I took the Sesna out for a little joyride.”

Well, they fregging asked right? They made me feel like an asshole for talking about it even when they were the ones who asked me what I did. If you don’t wanna fucken hear it, don’t fucking ask me. *Rage coming over me*

A co-worker commented on that post asking me to chat about it, lol. I wasn’t about to fall for that trap.

Wait for it

January 23rd, 2005 by MacBros

Well, this so-called Blizzard of 2005 sure seems to wanna’ take its time starting. Right now we’re getting a light dusting of snow and that’s it.

Almost every fucken channel on the TV is making this huge deal about the storm. I know there are a few places being hit badly but they’re going on as if there isn’t anything else to report on. It’s just snow people! Get over it!

Anyway, I’m gonna wait for it. Let’s see just how much snow we actually get.

Tomorrow, it’s back to work and we’re going live on the phones. I’m going to fuck up big time too. I really have no idea what the hell I’m doing because the training was done really badly. The instructors did a good job, but the curriculum they taught was terrible. We spent so much time learning background knowledge that will never come up in an actual call and not enough time spent on actual systems. So my first call is probably going to last about 2 hours.

I gotta go now. I have a stiff neck right now and it’s fucken’ killing me! Got to get the heating pad out. I must have slept in a weird position or something. Fuck my neck hurts! Tiger Balm isn’t working by itself.

l8er

Oh yeah. I can remember the networks always making a huge deal about when it was supposed to snow more than 5 centimetres. We had some really bad storms around that time and would get feet, not centimetres. But the news stations would go off the rails talking about it. It was almost like they weren’t in Canada and never experienced Canadian weather before.

The job I was about to start was a Tech Support line I think. I can’t remember. I did a lot of different things back then while I was trying to get my own business up and running. I do remember being trained for something and the information they taught us didn’t help at all in a live situation. It was similar to teaching a person how to ride a bicycle, and then throwing them into a high-performance sports car and telling them to race through a city.

By the way, Tiger Balm does work really well for muscle pain and sprains.

Blizzard of 2005

January 23rd, 2005 by MacBros

Doesn’t that title sound corny? That’s what all these news stations sound like.
It’s looking a little dirty out there now. The plow guy is out there now trying to keep up with the blowing snow. Seems like as soon as he gets half the parking lot done, the other half gets filled back up with snow.

There really isn’t that much snow coming down, it’s just blowing around more. It’s currently -17oC out now. But I bet that wind makes it feel double that.

Hope this stiff neck is gone by tonight, cause damn! It really fucken hurts! I have the ol’ Tiger Balm and heating pad on it and have a couple of painkillers in me and it still doesn’t seem to help.

I hope the weather is better tomorrow, I really don’t want to be missing any more time from work due to bad weather. By the looks of things, it seems we’ll be lucky and have this blizzard pass by us. But you never know, with the maritime weather. I could wake up tomorrow and it’ll be snow up to the window or a deluge of rain.

Ahhh you gotta love this Maritime Weather, Ey’?

Well, time to go back to the futon and nurse this stiff neck and watch some TV.

This was a follow-up to the previous post about the so-called, “BLIZZARD OF 2005!” lol! I guess the news networks were really bloating up the truth about the storm. But, you really never know with Maritime weather. It could be raining one day and heavy snowfall the next.

Apparently, I had a very stiff neck that day too. Must have had a cold draft hit it in my sleep. It would happen a lot in that old building I lived in at the time.

Blizzard Smchizzard

January 24th, 2005 by MacBros

We lucked out and the blizzard missed us! Hurray! Still fucken’ cold out this morning though, -18oC right now.

Jesus! My fucken’ neck is still killing me. This is getting quite painful! It’s gonna suck out loud for me today because I’ll be sitting at a computer all day looking up and down at the keyboard, and having my right arm, which is the side that is sore, elevated using the mouse. Just typing this right now is very uncomfortable.

To top off that pain, I’ll have no clue as to what the fuck I’ll be doing when I get my first call. Damn, I wish I was back at Tech Support!

At least I’ll be able to sleep in a little later cause I don’t start work till 9 am, instead of 7:30 am. For 5-6 weeks anyway, then it’s back to class for the second phase of training, unnnnnghhh!

Going to watch National Lampoons: Gold Diggers when I get home. I’ll let you all know what I thought of that movie after I watch it.

Well got to go get some painkillers for this stiff neck, fuck I don’t know what I did, but this fucken hurts!

l8er ouch!

LOL! I bet the news networks felt dumb when all that hype about the storm was wrong and there wasn’t hardly any snow that had fallen at all.

Apparently, the neck pain didn’t go away that night. Seems that I was really milking it for the sympathy. Did I actually get any sympathy from anyone? I can’t remember if I did or not. Doesn’t look like I did though according to there being no comments.

A Train Wreck Of A Day!

January 24th, 2005 by MacBros

Pheeeeewwww! is all I can say about today. I’m glad that that’s all over with. That first day, that first phone call, that first major fuck up! Today was a major train wreck! I didn’t have a fucken clue what the fuck I was doing. All the weeks of training on how a telephone pole connects to the house, how parallel and non-parallel DSL lines differ’ from each other, what the meaning of basic Telephony is, and least, BUT NOT LAST, how jacks & wiring work. How did any of that help me today on the phone you may ask?

NOT ONE FUCKEN NIT TITTILY BIT!!!!

What would have been nice would have been, oh, something like knowing how the fuck I’m supposed to transfer a customer to another department, or how do I put this person through the ‘Independent Verifying Rep’, Oh and the best one! Adjusting multiple Long Distance charges!!!???

I think actual application training, on the various scenarios that we’re going to be confronted with, not off-the-wall ones, but actual real things that happen EVERY FUCKEN DAY OF THE FUCKEN WEEK!

I wanted to pop some bitch in the side of the head for telling me to get them probes in there and get some sales. Typical Ex-RMHell employees are in A position they shouldn’t be because they’re in that ram-it-down-their-throat mode. And the client I work for is NOT that way! WE DON’T ask probs, we find their NEEDS. I was more focused on getting their initial concerns taken care of, doing it professionally, and not being in your fucken face about it either.

I spent almost 2 fucken hours on a call trying to get this poor girl’s bill in order, I think the last thing she would have wanted to get into is some fucken sales shpeal.

All I can say is, let me get comfortable in what I’m doing now first, If I feel like I can go into the sale in detail and complete the customer’s initial problem, I’ll do it. But if I just fuck up everything I try to do because I was not trained properly, I don’t see the point.

If this starts being the tiniest bit like that cesspool RMHell I will Quit and walk out the door so fast, the walls would implode from the rush of wind going out the door. I could bet that there would be a lot of other people right behind me. So I hope they put these Supervisors in their place and get them out of the RMHell state of mind.

There’s too much info to know all at once, so leave me the fuck alone and let me do my job the best I can, not the best you think YOU can do.

Oh, and speaking of Supervisors, they should have them on the phones, not just for an hour, but for the next few weeks, cause there’s nothing worse than having your hand up for help for several minutes (blood rushing out) and have one of them come over to help just to stand there with this dazed look in their face, and instead of getting one of the craploads of people that came up from the US that has been doing this for a few years to help, they’ll just stand there like a deer in headlights.

I needed a walkthrough to remove a Long Distance plan from a customer account and the EPS said just putting a checkmark in the box beside the LD Plan and then clicking on the remove item button is all I had to do, but I knew there was more, like an additional 12 steps, but she tried to tell me that I was wrong, I wanted to tell her to get the fuck away from me and get somebody that knows what the fuck they’re doing.

When somebody came over to help and knew what to do, she tries to tell them that that’s what she told me. The peers that were sitting beside me couldn’t believe she tried something so snakey. The things people do to save face, oh and it was that same bitch that thinks she is still at RMHell

I’ve got to stop ranting now because it’s just pissing me off. To sum things up, today was a fucken Train Wreck, and we were sent out to the floor not knowing what the hell we were doing because the things that were taught in the class had nothing to do with what we did today.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll learn some more stuff because I believe I learned more shit today in 8 hours than I did in the 5 weeks I was in class. FACT!

Peace OUT!

OH, I so remember that day. We were doing customer support for a telecom company from out of the US. It wasn’t a sales job, it was a technical support line for fixing phone and DSL internet problems. The bitch who was ‘given’ the supervisor job by their best friend without having ANY experience was from another Call Center called RMH that did harassing Long Distance calls for AT&T.

Their tactics were lacking any morals. The people working there lied to people and tricked them into bad deals. This so-called supervisor was still in that frameset mind and tried to make us salespeople, which we did NOT agree to. I think I eventually quit that job after a couple of months. Not because of the work, but rather the people who were supposed to be in charge. They got away with anything because they were best buds with the head of departments.

This post would end up being a regular topic on that blog. But for today, that’ll be all for now. There should be a lot more rants about that shitty job in the future posts of Flashback Fridays. So be sure to come back, OK? … Please?
